“Neighbouring rights” are rights related to copyright. Neighbouring rights are regulated in the Neighboring Rights Act (Wet op de Naburige Rechten – WNR). Copyright protects the work itself while neighbouring rights protect a certain effort related to the work.
Types of Neighbouring Rights
Neighbouring rights protect the performance and efforts of performers, (film) producers and broadcasters.
Protection
Neighbouring rights protect against, among other things, the recording of performances, the retransmission of programs and the reproduction of film works.
