A trademark owner can act with a registered trademark against infringement of his or her trademark. A trademark right protects against the unauthorized use of a sign similar to the trademark, or the same as the trademark when used for the same or similar goods or services. Use of a brand name without permission can, therefore, violate trademark rights. Trademark infringement also occurs when another person has taken unjustified advantage of a brand’s reputation, or if that reputation has been compromised.
