Burgerlijk Wetboek (BW) – Civil Code

The Burgerlijk Wetboek (BW) is the code in which civil law is regulated in the Netherlands. It, among other things, regulates contract law, liability law, private international law and personal and family law.

The Burgerlijk Wetboek (BW) consists of 9 parts and is divided as follows:

Book 1: Person – and Family Law
Book 2: Legal Person Law
Book 3: Property Law in General
Book 4: Inheritance Law
Book 5: Business Rights
Book 6: General Part of Contract Law
Book 7: Special Agreements
Book 8: Traffic and Transport
Book 9: Not Published
Book 10: International Private Law

Book 9 has not (yet) been published. This part was reserved for intellectual property provisions, but it has never been introduced.
