Copyright Act

The Copyright Act (Aw) is the law that regulates copyright in the Netherlands. In addition to copyright, the Copyright Act also regulates neighbouring rights, portrait rights and personality rights. Generally, the Copyright Act regulates what is protected by copyright, who can invoke protection, what is and what is not allowed with copyrighted works, and what is excluded from the protection. The Copyright Act is based on regulation from 1912 but has been adjusted. The protection of computer programs (software) is therefore also regulated in the Copyright Act.
