The copyright notice (©) accompanying a work (for example at the bottom of a website) is often regarded as a requirement for having copyrights to this work. However, this is not correct. Copyright is created automatically and no copyright notice is required.
Utility
The copyright notice is therefore of little use from a legal point of view. However, it can provide clarity to people that the work is protected by copyright in order to prevent possible infringements.
