ePrivacy – Regulation

The ePrivacy Regulation (also called European ePrivacy Regulation or EPV) provides rules regarding the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms in the provision and use of electronic communications services. In particular, it provides for the right to respect for private life and the communication and protection associated with the processing of personal data. The EPV will replace the ePrivacy Directive. The EPV is being dealt with by the EU due to the upcoming of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the European Code.
The EPV applies to the processing of electronic communications data in connection with the provision and use of electronic communications services. It also applies to information related to end-users’ terminal equipment. This includes cookies, the call-me-not register, confidentiality of communication, processing, storage and deletion of data, permission, privacy by design, software for electronic communication, direct marketing, spam, metadata, etc.
