Home Copy

Articles 16b and 16c of the Copyright Act stipulate that a few copies of a work may be made for your own use, study or practice: the home copy. Making such a home copy does not infringe the copyright of the maker.

Downloading illegally

Until 2014, illegal downloading was also subject to the above provisions. However, the Court of Justice determined in 2014 that this is no longer the case. Illegal downloading (for personal use) has therefore been prohibited since 2014.

Private Copying Levy

Blank carriers, such as hard disks or blank CDs / DVDs, are subject to a certain amount: the private copying levy. This levy is intended to compensate the fees that rightholders miss out on because of the private copy.
