License Agreement

A license agreement is an agreement that grants a right of use to a particular object. Licenses are often granted with regard to for example software and SaaS.

The License

A license can be granted for objects on which an intellectual property right is established. In many cases, this object will be a copyrighted work. The copyright holder has the rights to this work. Therefore, third parties wishing to use this work must obtain permission from the copyright holder (the license).

Granting a license is different from transferring the copyright. Transferring the copyright is much more drastic for the copyright holder. This is because the copyright holder then loses his copyrights.

With a license, the licensee is only given a right to use the work.

The Agreement

Various arrangements are made in the license agreement. In any case, provision should be made for the license to be issued and what exactly is covered by this license. In addition, licensing restrictions will often also be included.
