A treaty is an agreement between two or more states or other subjects of international law, such as the United Nations.
Pacta Sunt Servanda
Under the principle of Pacta Sunt Servanda (Latin for ‘agreements must be observed’), the contracting parties are obliged to observe the treaties in good faith.
Order
In the Netherlands, treaties are ranked higher than other Dutch statutory regulations. If a Dutch statutory regulation is not compatible with a binding treaty provision (or a treaty to which the Netherlands is a party), then according to Article 94 of the constitution that Dutch statutory provision does not apply.
