Continuity

It is important for customers that if there is a malfunction with the supplier of a service or if there is a case of bankruptcy, the customer can still continue to use the service in one way or another. This is called continuity (of the service). In IT, continuity is of great importance with cloud services such as hosting or a SaaS.

Continuity can be arranged in various ways. There is the classic escrow where the source code software is deposited with a (trusted) third party. This source code is then made available to the customer in the event of bankruptcy of the supplier. A foundation has also been specially established to guarantee the continuity of internet services, namely the Continuity Internet Services Foundation (Stichting Continuïteit Internetdiensten). This Foundation does not arrange continuity through an escrow but contractually ensures that the service is provided for a certain period when continuity is in danger.
